Protein packed with flavor…and other good stuff!

You’ll find this recipe not only good for maintaining your lean muscle mass or even encouraging fat loss, but also packed with a ton of beneficial side effects! We are BIG fans of Brussels sprouts. We know not everyone is but being prepared as a slaw and with all the nutritional value listed below, you may change your mind about them and give Brussels sprouts another try.

Brussels sprouts are actually well renowned as one of the world’s healthiest foods!

They are ranked among the top 20 most nutritious foods according to the ANDI score (Aggregate Nutrient Density Index). Essentially, this means that Brussels sprouts provide massive amounts of nutrients for a very small amount of calories and carbs. What do Brussels sprouts do? They help to delay, impede and even assist in preventing cancer of all forms. Brussels sprouts contain a high amount of chlorophyll, which can counter the carcinogenic effects of charred and blackened food. In other words, if you love barbeques and don’t want to get cancer, pair those charred bbq’d burger patties or sausages with cruciferous vegetables such as Brussels sprouts for the best scenario!

Roasted Tomato Slice with Swiss-Gruyere cheese

One final parting tip

If you’re going with the optional tomato and cheese, you may (or may not) drizzle some olive oil and salt and pepper onto the tomato slices before roasting them under the broiler. The roasted tomato along with the Swiss or Gruyere cheese will add a whole new depth of flavor to this ultra low carb burger recipe! We hope you enjoy this recipe – we know we definitely did, and hope it satisfies your craving for a good chunky burger too!

When Foodies Play…

Since I made several patties for future meals, I had a little fun playing with toppings. These burgers are definitely photogenic =)    This is the Brat Burger patty topped with the roasted tomato and Swiss/Gruyere blend. Just added a few pieces of bacon of course, a fried egg. What goes really well with Bratwurst? Sauerkraut! Here I used Trader Joe’s sauerkrut and I combined yellow mustard with some Sriracha sauce. Mmmmmmmm! Ultra Low Carb Brat Burger Brussels Slaw topped with Sauerkraut and Sriracha Mustard
